Sydneysiders urged to snap up tickets for best New Year’s Eve fireworks vantage points

After the cancellation of major New Year’s Eve events last year, Sydneysiders can look forward to ringing in the new year with Sydney Harbour’s famous fireworks displays.

This year, the 9pm family-friendly fireworks are back followed by the ‘mega’ midnight fireworks.

Crowds will be welcomed back, but those wishing to view the fireworks spectacular from the harbour are being urged to book soon to avoid disappointment.

Although viewing from various vantage points along the harbour is mostly free, event organisers are say booking tickets helps them accommodate numbers.

There are more than 30 harbourside vantage points to watch from, with most of them being ticketed.

Some of these spots are already fully booked.

The midnight show will feature 6-tonnes of fireworks, all synchronised to a specialised soundtrack in an event that has taken more than three thousand hours to plan.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Sydney deserved a party after a tough year full of ‘uncertain times’.

“No one does New Year’s Eve quite like Sydney,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Following the challenges we’ve faced over the last two years Sydney will once again shine, marking the beginning of what we hope will be a wonderful 2022 – for us, and for the rest of the world.”

For those out west, The City of Parramata is also planning five fireworks displays for families at 9pm with two thousand tickets available at each location.

For these fireworks, adults will be charged five dollars and kids under 12 will be free.

Ms Moore said the NYE event will bring in much needed business for Sydney hospitality venues who have struggled during a tough year.

“This New Year’s Eve come in and make a night of it – book into a restaurant or bar to start your evening, stay overnight at a hotel and support our terrific Sydney businesses, many of whom have really struggled to keep afloat in the last two years,” Ms Moore said.

“They need all the support we can give them.”

The City of Sydney has advised some vantage points may require proof of vaccination, but each area will have its own terms and conditions of entry.

More information and booking availabilities can be found on the City of Sydney website.
