The traditional Wulong Xuhua performance, a kind of dragon dance performed amid fireworks by the Miao ethnic group, was staged in southwest China’s Taijiang to celebrate the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the first month of the traditional Chinese calendar, which falls on February 24 this year.
The performance is part of a two-day Wulong Xuhua competition launched on the eve of Lantern Festival. The 300-year-old Wulong Xuhua, listed as a form of national intangible cultural heritage in 2021, is considered to be the grandest folk cultural carnival in Taijiang for Chinese New Year celebrations.
